December 12, 2011
Dear Parents/Guardians,
For the 2011-2012 school year, Gonzales Independent School District is participating in the Optional Flexible Year Program. This program allows for students who meet established criteria to be exempt from the last 10 days of the school year. The established criterion for the 2011-2012 school year is listed below.
For Grades Pk-6:
Students must pass all content core classes [English, Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies] with a minimal score of 85%, have 90% attendance (have not been absent more than 17 days), and pass BENCHMARK/STAAR assessments.
This means that if your child meets the criteria outlined above his/her last day of school will be Thursday, May 24, 2012.
If your child does not meet the criteria listed above then he/she will be required to attend school for the entire 180 days until Friday, June 8, 2012. During this time, teachers will work intensively with your child on the areas in which he/she needs help.
Should you have any questions, please contact your child’s campus.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kimberly Strozier
Superintendent of Schools
