Welcome to the Curriculum Department. I am Denise Graves the Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. I possess twelve years of elementary experience and fourteen years of intermediate/junior high experience. I was in the classroom for 17 years, the principal’s chair another 10 years and now one year as an Elementary Curriculum Director. Being a life long learner and holding a wide range of skills and competencies, I am committed to spreading my enthusiasm for learning throughout the school setting. My consistent dedication to student success by seeking out and finding high caliber curriculum and quality teachers to provide student centered lessons has helped me be an effective administrator. I have conducted both district and campus staff development sessions in TAKS data disaggregation used effectively, authored two books, Vertical and Horizontal Alignment of Math grades 5-8, written G/T curriculum for grades 2-6, created and implement a grade 5, Grade Recovery Program which I presented at the Mid-Winter Conference in January of 2007, actively participated in job fairs, and used the Gallop Perceiver to hire more than 50 quality personnel over the past 10 years. The motivation behind all my efforts is to do what is best for every student in the district in which I honorable serve. Finally, I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1980. I earned a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Denton in 1990 and then obtained my Principal’s Certification from the same university in subsequent years. When I am not working, there are a few activities I thoroughly enjoy. I am most likely attempting to improve my ever elusive go for par golf game, relaxing on a sport fishing boat at Port O’Connor or shopping with my adult daughters in Houston. My philosophy has always been to work hard and then take time to rest, shop and rejuvenate myself. If you have any curriculum or instruction questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me and if I do not know the answers, I will spend the time to seek out and find them. I have an open door policy at my office as well, so feel free to stop by.Sincerely, Denise Graves, M.Ed.Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction Gonzales Independent School District 830.672.9551 ext. 1330 This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
