Having fun and learning can go hand-in-hand.  Mardi TAKS is the answer as it celebrates learning in preparation for the TAKS Tests which begin in March.  Students earn Mardi beads and Mardi "bucks" when they perform tasks that demonstrate the ability to solve TAKS test problems in Science, Math, Social Studies, Reading and Writing.  After the TAKS tests the students are rewarded with a TAKS Crowning Ceremony and winners are announced.  Prince and Princesses are announced from each grade.

Friday February 5th: Kickoff Pep-Rally

Monday Ferbruary 8th: Parents are sent letters explaining Mardi TAKS

Monday February 8th: Students begin earning "bucks" and beads in 7th Grade English

Monday February 8th: Math and Reading 8th Grade begin TAKS review

Monday April 8th: Determine overall Prince and Princess for each class

Friday April 30th: Mardi TAKS Crowning Ceremony announces the Kings and Queens

Gonzales Junior High Seventh and Eighth grade students honored Black History Month with and essay contest sponsored by the Edwards Association.  The essay topic was written on the theme "I Have a Dream" in the students' English classes.  the topic was taken from the famous speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr. on August 28, 1963, in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D. C..  One dream quote addressed character by saying, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."  Students demonstrated character building by writing essays on diverse subjects.

The winning eighth grade essays were written by Kenneth Erskin and Leticia Ortiz.  The seventh grade winner was Sabrina Llamas.  Seated with the students is the Principal of GJHS Ms. Teresa Staton.

The Edwards Associatioin thanks all of the students who participated in the essay contest.

Seventh Grade Star Students Announced

The seventh grade teachers have chosen their STAR students for the first semester.  These students have been chosen based on their good behavior and hard work.  They will be rewarded with a Pizza party on Friday, December 11, 2009.

 The students are:  Shenan Owens, Madelyne Parr, Nicki Schauer, Mikayla Wyatt, Ebonique Harris, Brooke Neuse, Danielle Flowers, Tyshawn Erskin, Travis Schauer, Robert Soliz, Damian Ramirez and Dalton Kuntschick.
